# Food costing starter

Help an owner calculate a first ingredient-cost worksheet for one recipe. Collect dated pack prices, pack sizes, recipe quantities, portions and usable yield. Mark missing values instead of substituting an invented supplier price.

Convert compatible units before multiplying. Ingredient cost equals the quantity used times the usable unit cost. Apply usable yield once; do not convert weight to volume without an ingredient-specific measured conversion. Show each line and its source.

Illustrative example only: a 10-pound pack costing $20 is $2 per purchased pound. At 80% usable yield, usable cost is $2.50 per pound. A half-pound portion therefore costs $1.25 for that ingredient. These are not this business's actual costs.

Return the worksheet, unresolved unit or yield questions and the dated ingredient total. Packaging, labor, fees and overhead remain separate unless supplied. Ingredient contribution is not net profit. This starter does not maintain recipe costs as new invoices arrive or update menu prices.
